K’ore dumps Infinity

BY CHUKS NWANNE
WHEN the gospel singing sensation, Infinity, made their entry into the country’s music scene, their impact was massive; their songs Olorioko and Aye Ole in particular, were popular tunes on radio and TV stations. Though a gospel music group, Infinity was almost accepted by everyone due to their music style and quality video production.
At the maiden edition of the Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA), the five-man music group smiled home with seven of the total 19 prizes up for grab. In what was an obvious clean sweep, the group through the director of their sensational musical videos, Yomi Mao, clinched the Best Director Awards on a night filled with frills and thrills.
The win broke the previous record of the most awards won in any ceremony by any individual or group set jointly in 1992 by the duo of Blackky and Daniel Wilson who won five awards each at the 1992 held Nigeria Music and the Fame Music Awards.
Looking crisp in their milk coloured suits, the group was most ecstatic following the standing ovation accorded them as they mounted the podium several times to receive their awards. Infinity won Best Indigenous, Best Use of Choreography, Best Gospel, Best Interpreted, Best Directed, Best Edited, Best Photography and Best Overall Video Awards at the ceremony.
Amid cheers and applause from fans, a guest made an observation, “how long will the group last?” At that point, there was no single response. However, it was believed that, having toiled together for years, Infinity as a gospel music group, might be able to sustain the band for long.

Just recently, news filtered in that K’ore, a member of the group has gone solo. The singer/songwriter, who played vital role in the composition of songs, Olorioko, Only Praise among others, according to rumour, is on the verge of signing on another record label where his dream of producing solo a album would materialise.
Why is K’ore dumping the group that brought him to limelight? What went wrong? Was there any quarrel? Has his departure got anything to do with money? Well, I ran into the singer recently in Lagos and he took time to explain what informed his decision to leave Infinity. Watch out for the full report on this page.
